Arizona State – BioMimicry Conference
Sponsored by Arizona State University School of Life Sciences at Tempe, Arizona, Feb 18th – 20th, 2010
Doug Lawson, Southwest Airlines, a presenter at our last SHPE Professional Conference will be presenting at the Arizona State – BioMimicry Conference, Feb. 18-20 in Tempe, AZ.
Ways of applying insect group behavior to improvements in Manufacturing, with additional implications in the areas of Teaming, Search & Rescue, Military and Robotics.
Some areas in which SHPE members might be interested in:
# Task allocation: How does an insect colony flexibly allocate its members among tasks and/or resource patches in an unpredictable environment? Can we devise similar ways to streamline assembly lines and host Internet services more efficiently?
# Cooperative transport: How do teams of insects work together without central communication or oversight? Can this inform dispersed human work teams (e.g. military or field search and rescue operations) in contexts where centralized communication becomes difficult. Can robots be programmed to interact and perform cooperative tasks following simple behavioral rules?
Early registration is $30 and the University is offering Student Travel Grants.
